Damon Stoudamire hit two 3-pointers during a decisive run early in the fourth quarter as the Trail Blazers rallied to defeat the Miami Heat, 89-81, for their fourth straight victory.

Portland turned a five-point deficit into a nine-point lead with a 14-0 spurt to start the final quarter. Stoudamire's second 3-pointer capped the run and gave the Trail Blazers a 73-64 advantage with 7:05 remaining.

Zach Randolph scored 22 points and Derek Anderson added 20 for Portland, which reached .500 for the first time since it was 15-15 on December 31.

Stoudamire finished with 18 points as the Trail Blazers closed within three games of Denver for the final Western Conference playoff spot.

"We've been trying to get to .500 for a long time," coach Maurice Cheeks said. "Now that we're here, we've got to stay here and above .500. We're going uphill, that's the main thing."

With 9:08 left, Portland's Ruben Patterson got into an altercation with Miami rookie Dwyane Wade. He thought the incident fired up his teammates.

"When they see me ticked off, it got their blood pumping and they started playing," Patterson said.

The loss denied the Heat, who hold the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, a season-high fifth straight victory.

"I think that squirmish sparked them a little bit," admitted Miami forward Lamar Odom, who scored 25 points. "They got hyped after that. Damon hit some threes with a hand in his face."

Portland held Wade, the reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week, to just 12 points, his lowest total since scoring 10 at New Orleans on January 31.

"They put up a wall," he said. "They did a good job of containing me from getting to the rim. I have to make better decisions. I just didn't concentrate on finishing like I did in recent games."

Miami closed to 82-79 with 1:27 left on a driving layup by Odom, who was fouled on the play. But he missed the free throw and Anderson hit a jumper over Eddie Jones from the top of the key to make it 84-79 with 43 seconds left.

Portland put together a pair of strong fourth quarters in its two wins over the Heat this season. On November 19, the Trail Blazers outscored Miami, 33-18, in the final period and posted a 94-93 victory on Qyntel Woods' two free throws with four-tenths of a second remaining.

"Obviously, we reverted back to where we were early in the season," said Miami coach Stan Van Gundy, alluding to the Heat's 0-7 start.
